Weinbach piano upright
I think each of us players has our own tastes in sounds and playability of pianos. It was meticulously maintained and also included a humidifier, a necessity here in Arizona. Admittedly, my budget was under $6,000, but the Weinbach stood out for its sound and action. This after I played Yamaha, Baldwin, Kawai, Young Chang, Kohler & Campbell, Weber, etc. old Weinbach 5'3" grand and am thrilled to play it every day. If the Weinbach sounds nicer and the action suits your hands, it would be the obvious choice. I will recommend what has been told to me a few times, go with the piano that is going to motivate you (or your kids) to play every day. If I was doing this in your area, I would be looking for anything and everything and would advertise in the shop that "we take special orders for special pianos". I'll bet that he will say something like: sure, we can do that, but we need some money up front or if I call you will need to come to the shop and pay in advance if we find one.

In my case people call and ask for special models which I get them.and those never get to the general public.Īs a test ask the head guy there if you could request a special model like a 1985 Yamaha U3 in really good condition. piano guys ALWAYS know which piano is the BEST. It is the same here and i am sure the same there. also remember: if i know what piano guys are like, you will not find a hidden treasure in the groups of pianos they bring it.you can be assured that the piano guys ALWAYS know the top models and will charge more or the really good ones will be sold to customers that have paid in advance for certain models which will never get to the shop where you are looking.

What do you say? Which one should I choose? Do I take unnecessary risk if I go for Weinbach? I think there is not much difference between the two pianos and I tend to like the Weinbach more.

The guy who is selling them is a professional piano player and he recommended that I buy the Yamaha because it has better hammers, better action and better parts. The Weinbach looks like new.īoth instruments play fine but the Weinbach sound is warmer to my inexperienced ear. On the whole it looks unattractive and uninspiring.

There are also some ballpen markings on the side. It looks as if a 4 yo kid jumped around the piano doing his thing. However on the outside some of the Yamaha's keys are chipped and its cabinet looks worse than Weinbach's. I was surprised to see that both instruments look very good inside despite their age.

I have to choose between a Yamaha - 2000 euros, from 1978 according to serial number and a Weinbach - 1500 euros, from 1970. Hi! I need a decent upright for my 6 year old.
